At what age should you take your driving test?

Many of our pupils and people who enquire about our driving lessons ask us what age is the best to learn to drive and attempt to pass a driving test. The fact is this is completely down to the pupil and their instructor, but we have recently been thinking about age statistics as a result…

From 2014-2015 we can see a breakdown of statistics for driving tests taken at the Grimsby centre by the age of the candidate:

17 years

  • Conducted – 93
  • Passes – 39
  • Pass rate – 41.9%

18 years

  • Conducted – 90
  • Passes – 42
  • Pass rate – 46.7%

19 years

  • Conducted – 43
  • Passes – 17
  • Pass rate – 39.5%

20 years

  • Conducted – 32
  • Passes – 21
  • Pass rate – 65.6%

21 years

  • Conducted – 22
  • Passes – 8
  • Pass rate – 36.4%

22 years

  • Conducted – 16
  • Passes – 7
  • Pass rate – 43.8%

23 years

  • Conducted – 30
  • Passes – 19
  • Pass rate – 63.3%

24 years

  • Conducted – 17
  • Passes – 10
  • Pass rate – 58.8%

25 years

  • Conducted – 19
  • Passes – 5
  • Pass rate – 26.3%

The best pass rate comes from 20 and 23 year olds and the lowest success rate comes from 25 year olds. The statistics are interesting but are essentially meaningless. Regardless of how old our pupils are, we ensure that every G-Drive customer gets all of the help they require, in a friendly manner from our patient instructors. We want to see you pass your driving test first time, whether you're 17 or 25 years old.
